• Babies, toddlers, and school-aged kids can benefit from pediatric physical therapy. At EMpower PT, we support children in their own homes (throughout NYC and Brooklyn) as they develop strong, confident movement skills at every stage.

For infants, pediatric physical therapy helps promote age-appropriate motor milestones like rolling, sitting, crawling, pulling to stand, and early walking. We gently guide your baby’s development while helping you understand what to expect each month.

For toddlers, physical therapy builds the strength, balance, and coordination needed for running, jumping, climbing stairs, and keeping up with peers. If you’ve noticed your toddler is a little unsure on their feet or uses extra effort to move, PT can make a meaningful difference.

Pediatric physical therapy is also especially helpful for children with neurological, genetic, orthopedic, or developmental conditions that make motor skills more challenging. Early support can improve long-term mobility, confidence, and independence.

Most importantly, we work closely with caregivers, giving you practical tools, activities, and strategies you can use at home so your child continues to grow between sessions.

If you’re unsure whether your child may benefit from pediatric physical therapy, we’re here to help - you don’t have to navigate your child’s development alone.

  • Children from infants to school-aged kids can benefit from pediatric occupational therapy. At EMpower, our occupational therapists support children in their homes throughout NYC and Brooklyn as they build the skills they need to play, learn, and participate confidently in daily life.

For infants, occupational therapy promotes early foundational skills such as reaching, grasping, visual-motor coordination, rolling, sitting, and exploring their environment. We help your baby build strong early motor patterns while giving you guidance on what to expect as they grow.

For toddlers, OT focuses on sensory processing, emotional regulation, fine motor skills, and easing daily routines like dressing, feeding, transitions, and play. If your toddler seems overwhelmed by certain sensations, struggles with attention, or has difficulty calming their body, occupational therapy can make day-to-day life feel easier.

Pediatric occupational therapy is especially valuable for children with neurological, genetic, orthopedic, sensory processing, or developmental differences that make motor skills or self-regulation more challenging. OT helps children feel more organized, confident, and capable.

Early occupational therapy can truly change a child’s trajectory. Starting sooner often leads to fewer challenges later and, in many cases, a shorter course of treatment. Most importantly, we collaborate closely with caregivers, providing strategies and home activities that support your child’s progress long after each session ends.

If you’re wondering whether your child may benefit from pediatric OT, we’re here to help you understand your options and support your family every step of the way.

Initial evaluations

Initial Evaluations are 60 minutes - this includes taking a detailed social and medical history, as well as objective measures. I will then provide you with a simple home exercise program to get you started until we can build upon this program at your follow up treatments. An initial evaluation is required before follow up treatments. All initial evaluations are completed in home.

Follow Up Treatments

Follow Up Treatments may include any combination of the following interventions: manual therapy, body work, strengthening exercises, neuromuscular re-education, transfer training, gait training, wheelchair training, home exercise practice, etc. All therapy appointments are in home.

Interventions Offered:

Manual therapy

We often provide gentle soft tissue manipulation, scar tissue massage, or targeted stretching to ensure your little one is ready for their therapy session.

Strengthening

We create personalized strengthening programs to improve muscle strength, endurance, and power to aid in functional movements. Strength training allows children to maximize participation in all of their activities at home, school, or the playground.

Neuromuscular re-education

Trains the somatosensory, proprioceptive, and vestibular systems to improve balance, posture, and trunk/head control during functional tasks.

Transfer Training

We teach parents, caregivers, daycare teams, etc. how to carry out safe transfers from floor to stand during play, from bed to chair to eat breakfast, from wheelchair to shower chair for hygiene, etc. Transfer training helps increase your child's ability to fully participate in daily living.

Gait Training

May or may not include the use of equipment such as orthotics, prosthetics, braces, or assistive devices. Gait training helps little ones participate in daily living to their full potential.

Home exercise Programing

We develop personalized programs for parents or caregivers to complete at home on the days you don't have therapy services. We are always available to communicate with parents between sessions if questions regarding your home program come up - therapy is a team effort! We keep all home programs under 30 minutes per day so they are easy to get done!

Dynamic Movement intervention (DMI)

Utilizes advanced techniques to facilitate postural righting and balance reactions while providing significant vestibular and proprioceptive input. Our knowledgeable and dedicated therapists use this technique to train the neuromuscular system and elicit progress more quickly than typical therapy services.

Infant Bodywork

Use of hands on techniques to calm your child's emotional state, release fascial tension, and improve function. Body work can also improve digestion and constipation for infants and toddlers, as well as assist in toilet training.

Task Specific E-Stim (TASES)

Utilizes electrical stimulation to activate muscles that are weak or do not activate appropriately during functional activities. This is an excellent adjunct to typical therapy services.

Purposeful play

We encourage patients to choose their play activity - then we make it therapeutic! Whether they choose a puzzle, drawing, crafts, video games, or soccer, I assure you we can make it a therapeutic intervention that will benefit them in the long run. Purposeful play allows us to provide personal and compassionate care as well as help children learn new skills more quickly.

Schroth Therapy for Scoliosis

Treats Scoliosis and Scheuermann’s Kyphosis before or after surgery or when surgery is not indicated. Aims to reduce pain, halt curve progression, improve cardio-pulmonary function, mobility, and postural stability.
